NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH UPDATE - DEC. 6TH

Just an update on how the new NW Program is going.  We have about 300 Block Watchers now representing just over half of our designated Captains.  Translated, we have about 50 Captains, 25 of whom have turned in their lists, and from that we have about 300 people registered.  If the other half of the Captains turn in their lists, we should hit 600 and if we can get the other 20 Captains we need, we should hit the 850 target!
So, if you haven't been getting updates through the e-mail, contact me (skipheyman@verizon.net) and it will mean either I haven't heard from your Captain or you don't have one and I'll try to talk you into filling that role!
The good news is that our system is working - we've had a couple of Block Watchers spot unusual goings-on and call the police, and they've been quick to respond!  We can make a difference - we just have to be committed to doing so!
That said, it's holiday season so be careful putting up your decorations, secure your ladder before climbing it, don't overload your outlets (any Clark Griswolds among us?), and if you're going to fry a turkey, don't do it in the shed next to the lawnmower oil and gasoline!  Keep your cars locked at all times as I'm told theft from autos is the most frequent crime we see in Salem Woods, and if you 're going to be away for the holidays, invite neighbors to park in your driveway, pick up your mail and newspaper, and turn some lights on for you - don't make yourself a target.
Again, NW needs your help and if you haven't been approached about signing up, get in touch with me.!!  A happy and safe holiday to all!
