BURGLAR ALARM SYSTEM - POTENTIAL SCAM

Good Evening Civic League Neighbors,
 
Be on the alert for people offering to upgrade the “chip” in your alarm system so that it will work. Billy D. Williams confronted two people in Lake Smith Terrace this evening who had approached a neighbor trying to sell an upgraded chip for their alarm system. They had approached Billy D’s neighbor yesterday and seemed to be asking too many personal questions. She contacted the police but they left the area before an officer arrived. The two people claimed to be from GE but did not produce any ID or solicitor permits. VBPD are now aware and are looking for the two people. They feel it is likely this is not a legitimate business. The two people are white males in their early 20s with short to medium hair and they were neatly dressed with polo type golf shirts.  They were walking and no vehicle was observed. They very well could be determining which houses have alarm systems, and which do not. If anyone comes to your door offering to “upgrade” your alarm system, contact the police immediately, and then notify your neighborhood watch block captain.
 
As many of you know, we have a permanent population of Canada Geese in Lake Smith and Oliver’s Pond – the lake behind the park. They are protected by federal law under the Migratory Bird Act. Natural predators, such as turtles and foxes have some effect on the total number of geese, but we still have a substantial population. We have had a report that someone or some organization recently “relocated” some geese to our neighborhood. I have not been able to find any local group that knows anything about any geese relocation program. On the same subject, Sam Hribal recently noticed a goose with a leg band. We are not sure why an yone would want to band geese that never migrate. If anyone knows anything about the possible relocation or banding of geese, please contact me.
